It is a limited enrollment program designed to train performers for a career in musical theatre and related performance disciplines. The School of Music, the Department of Dance, and the Department of Theatre and Media Arts have combined their resources to create an accredited course of study by NASM, NASD, and NAST leading to a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree.

BRAVO!, formerly known as the BYU Performing Arts Series, showcases world-class musicians, dancers and actors on campus. Visiting performers not only demonstrate their talents and tell captivating stories, but they also inspire students to improve their skills and increase their ambitions.

“Almost every person or company that visits as part of the series gives a lecture or teaches a master class,” said Jeff Martin, producer of the BRAVO! series. “It isn’t just about bringing people to do shows; it’s about encouraging connections and learning with professionals.”

“I was hoping that one day it would happen, but you really have no idea if things will line up that way. Before the show, I went to her dressing room to run through lines together. The first line Aaron Samuels says is ‘Hi, I’m Aaron’ and Cady Heron says ‘Me Cady.’ After Becca said the line, I burst into tears. To be performing with one of my best friends and oldest friends from college was such a special and surreal moment.”

Jake Swain, a graduate of the BYU BFA Acting program, reflects on the first night he and BYU alum, Becca Petersen, a graduate of the BFA MDT program, performed opposite each other in Mean Girls on Broadway.
